Transco Partnering with Duke to Monitor Natural Gas Methane Emissions in North Carolina

Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Co., the nation’s largest natural gas interstate pipeline system, is partnering with Duke Energy Corp. on a methane monitoring project in North Carolina with about $1 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Duke’s Methane Monitoring Platform Extension project would expand on the company’s established monitoring system to work with interstate natural gas assets, such as Williams’ massive Transco system, as it is better known. The North Carolina project is set to begin later this year.

Charlotte, NC-based Duke has a methane monitoring system that has reduced pipeline leaks by more than 85% since the start of 2022, according to company officials.
